Having problems with the emotion recognition demo?
There are some know compatibility problems with browsers and java as well as incorrect calls to our web servers. These can look like:
1. Grey screen displayed but the character is not displayed
2. The emotion recognition returns -1's
3. First time you hit 'listen' the record bar stays on longer than 5 sec but the recognition is wrong
4. The emotion recognition 'hangs' in the processing state
5. The emotion recognition takes 'ages' to return answer
6. Tetchy doesn't recognise your emotions correctly
Answers to each of these know issues are presented below. Please try these first but if this doesn't fix the problem email problem@affectivemedia.com
1. Grey screen displayed but the character is not displayed
You will need a java plug-in. If you go to http://www.java.com and then click on the "Get it now" button in the green box on the right it will initiate an automatic install
When completed, close your browser and visit www.affectivemedia.com again and try out the demo
2. The emotion recognition returns -1's
This is due to too high demand of our servers (Tetchy is overtired). Simply leave a few seconds and try again
3. First time you hit 'listen' the record bar stays on longer than 5 sec but the recognition is wrong
We have observed problems with some browsers when trying out Tetchy for the very first time. The first emotion recognition is erroneous. However simply
hit listen again and repeat your speech and Tetchy will work fine.
4. The emotion recognition 'hangs' in the processing state
This is due to our servers being down for maintenance (Tetchy in hibernation). Please try a little later when we will have the servers back on-line again
5. The emotion recognition takes 'ages' to return answer
The longest wait is associated with animated Tetchy. In fact the emotion recognition is only a small fraction of the time it takes to upload your speech to our servers, process it, return the emotion
classification and animate Tetchy. We have other 'non-animation' demos which we hope to have on-line soon
6. Tetchy doesn't recognise your emotions correctly
If Tetchy is not getting your emotions correct then this can be due to a few things
The microphone may be too close to your mouth and causing your speech to be muffled - to correct hold the mic directly in front of your mouth at a minimum distance of 10 cm from your mouth
The volume of the microphone may be too high or too low - check that when you are really angry the waveform nearly touches (but does not touch) the top and bottom of the window under the listen button. This will set the volume correctly
Check that the microphone is on and working - there should be movement in the waveform window when you speak
If Tetchy still doesn't get your emotions correct then please email us at problem@affectivemedia.com - we will be able to fix the problem for you
